Some Major Figures in Homeopathy

Sébastien Des Guidi (1769-1863)
Born in Naples in 1769, the Count Des Guidi came from an ancient
Florentine family. He became interested in the so-called "exact"
sciences, and worked for the common good. He committed himself
to and participated in the Revolution in Naples in 1798.
In 1799, he requested political asylum in France, obtained
it and debarked in Marseille, then in Lyon.
Starting in 1803, he taught mathematics and physics at what
is now the Lycée Ampère of Lyon; in 1813, he
was named Inspector of the University of Grenoble.

Constantin Hering (1800-1880)
Born in Oschatz, Saxony on January 1, 1800, he earned his
M.D. from the University of Wurzburg in 1826.
This young German physician was asked to write a pamphlet
against homeopathy.
To do this, Hering studied the works of Hahnemann and undertook
several experiments to understand the method better. As he
made observations, he became convinced of the rightness of
this therapeutic method. Hering became a defender of homeopathy...

Benoît Mure (1809-1858)
Benoît Mure was born in Lyon on May 4, 1809.
Cured by a homeopathic treatment prescribed by Dr. Des Guidi,
he devoted his time and resources to the development of homeopathy
which he started studying in 1833.
He was opposed to official medicine and particularly the medical
profession.
In 1834, he studied homeopathy in Naples then returned to
Palermo where, in 1837 he created a dispensary that would
later become the Académie Royale de médecine
Homéopathique [Royal Academy of Homeopathy].
1839 - Benoît Mure founded the homeopathic dispensary
on Rue de la Harpe in Paris, where, together with his colleagues,
he saw 1000 patients a week and where he contributed actively
to training...

René Baudry (1880-1966)
A native of Angers by birth, at the request of his childhood
friend, Dr. Léon Vannier, he founded the French General
Homeopathic Pharmacy in 1911. Located at 68 Bd Malherbes,
Paris, this pharmacy was taken over by Henri Boiron in 1945
and is now the Paris office of Boiron.
The Baudry-Vannier partnership dissolved a few years afterward
and in 1926, Léon Vannier founded the Homeopathic Laboratories
of France on his own.

Léon Vannier (1880-1963)
A native of Angers by birth, Léon Vannier discovered
homeopathy in his early years thanks to his brother, Edouard.
A brilliant student at the Medical School of Angers, he was
an intern in the hospitals of Paris and chose to pursue his
knowledge of homeopathy.
He moved to Paris in 1905 as a homeopathic physician and,
in January 1912, founded a magazine: "L'Homéopathie
française" [French Homeopathy] which is now known
as "L'Homéopathie européenne" [European
Homeopathy].
With his friends, Drs. Mondain and Chiron, he opened a homeopathic
dispensary on boulevard Montparnasse...

Henri Boiron and Jean Boiron
Born in Paris on July 4, 1906 to a father who was a police
official, they both became Doctors of Science in 1928, and
earned their diplomas in pharmacy in 1929.
In 1932, these twin brothers accepted the proposal of René
Baudry (a pharmacist specialized in homeopathy), and founded
a homeopathic laboratory in Paris: the Laboratoire Central
Homéopathique de France [Central Homeopathic Laboratory
of France].

Denis Demarque (1915-1999)
In 1925, Denis Demarque discovered homeopathy from his father,
a homeopathic physician. A graduate of the Naval Health School
of Bordeaux, an intern in the Hospitals of Bordeaux, he earned
his Physician's degree on August 2, 1940.
